Two doses of the coronavirus vaccine have been given by most of the ten carriers of the Omicron variant treated in Britain, the UK Health and Safety Authority (UKHSA) has announced.

The announcement states that the patients are scattered throughout the country and are aged from 18 to 85 years.

It is not clear how serious their health condition is.

UKHSA chief medical adviser Dr Susan Hopkins said: “Hospitalizations are always followed by a few weeks of infections, so it is no surprise that we have begun to see people being admitted to the hospital with the Omicron variant.”

At the same time, a second study confirms that two doses of coronavirus vaccines, both AstraZeneca and Pfizer, offer reduced protection against Omicron infection.

Researchers from Oxford who published the study note, however, that for the time being there is no evidence that the new variant could cause serious illness or death among those vaccinated.

Another 1,576 Omicron cases in the UK

Another 1,576 cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus were identified on Monday in the United Kingdom, the UK Health and Safety Administration announced.

A total of 4,713 cases of the variant have now been detected in the country.

Of the new cases, 1,576 were detected in England, 27 in Scotland and 15 in Wales. No case was detected in Northern Ireland.

The total number of daily Covid cases is usually announced in the late afternoon.

As Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a morning statement, 40% of the new cases in London belong to Omicron, which is expected to become the dominant variant in the capital by tomorrow Tuesday.
