Shock in Spain: Pedro Almodovar’s “Kika” committed suicide, Veronica Forke

It shocked Spain, and not only, that the beloved Spanish actress Veronica Forke, who had played the famous character of “Kika” in the film of the same name by Pedro Almodovar, committed suicide. Forke’s body was found Monday at her home in Madrid, a police source said.

The 66-year-old actress, one of the most popular in Spanish cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, also known for her roles in Pedro Almodβvar’s “A Life of Suffering” and “Matador”, “committed suicide at her home in Madrid”, explained the same source without giving further details.

“Goodbye Veronica Forke. I worked with her a few years ago and I have the memory of a sweet and witty woman and a very good partner. Rest in peace,” actor Antonio Banderas wrote on Tweeter shortly after the announcement of her death.

Born in Madrid in 1955, Veronica was the daughter of director Jose Maria Forke and writer Carmen Bathket-Vigo.

Veronica Forke made her film debut under her father in the early 1970s, and saw her career rewarded with four Goya Awards: Best Actress (1988 and 1994 for “Kika”) and Best Second. female role (1987 and 1988). He also starred in theater and television.
