Despite this, the choice of person of the year is traditionally made by the magazine’s editors. This Monday (13), the result for the year 2021 was released: billionaire Elon Musk.
On the networks, there were reactions from Bolsonaro supporters and government opponents, as usual. Some pointed out that while the magazine might choose another personality for the cover, Bolsonaro had already established himself as a world leader and the poll would have proved that.
Among the president’s supporters, there was an attempt to justify his not being chosen, an allegation that the choice was a fraud and an endorsement of the possibility of his reelection to the presidency in 2022.
Bolsonaro supporters also called the magazine a communist.
On the other side
Meanwhile, opponents of the government mock the situation.
Using jargon and paraphrasing government supporters, they make reference to requests for votes printed in Brazil and the rivalry with the Workers’ Party, which strengthened Bolsonaro’s election.
Still on the volume of votes in the poll released by Time, opponents suggest that what was called ”virtual militancy” was, in reality, a coordinated action of robots.
Especially, but not only, the international community has the debate more focused on the fact that health professionals, according to users of the networks, should have been chosen for this cover, considering the work developed in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Musk, of course, was also the target of criticism.
