What by-elections? All of America is waiting for the $1.9 billion Powerball jackpot draw

The US political scene may be on fire because of the midterm elections, but the country is on its feet for one more reason: The Powerball jackpot.

Americans are anxiously waiting for the lottery to take place that gives away the staggering amount of $1.9 billion, the largest prize in the history of the game.

This year’s Powerball draw has been delayed and as announced by the company that manages the lotteries, the reason is that more time was needed for security protocols.

“Powerball has strict security requirements that all 48 lotteries must meet before a drawing can take place,” the company tweeted. “There is currently no estimated time for the draw.”

The last time someone won the Powerball jackpot was on August 3, when a lucky person in Pennsylvania won an estimated $206.9 million. Since then, the Powerball jackpot has grown steadily and reached $1.9 billion.

Tickets cost $2, and the winner can choose either a one-time payment, estimated for this jackpot at $929 million, or choose to be paid in installments over 29 years. Most winners choose the lump sum payment.
