He even gave his financial advice to Queen Elizabeth II
Evelyn de Rothschild has died at the age of 91. The British banker helped merge the British and French branches of his family’s famous banking group.
The infamous banker had even given his financial advice to Queen Elizabeth II of Britain.
According to what Bloomberg reports, Rothschild “went” peacefully to his home.
Beginning in 1976, Rothschild served for 27 years as chairman of NM Rothschild & Sons. Among its many other roles, the bank now known as Rothschild & Co. helped finance the Duke of Wellington’s victory over Napoleon in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo.
Before he left in 2003, he achieved the long-planned goal of merging the London business with its French counterpart Rothschild & Compagnie Banque. This was seen as a key step to remain competitive with the much younger – but also larger – multinational banks.
