A knife attack took place earlier against police officers in Brussels, resulting in the death of one of the two.
According to the Associated Press, citing the federal prosecutor’s office, two police officers were attacked near Brussels North train station.
Local media reported that the attacker was shot.
“One of our patrols was attacked by a man armed with a knife,” police said. “The two policemen then called for reinforcements. An officer from another patrol used his firearm to neutralize the assailant.”
According to Belgian media, the attacker allegedly shouted “Allah Akbar”.
Le Soir newspaper reported that the dead policeman was stabbed in the neck and died in hospital.
