Iran: Germany and Iceland demand a special meeting of the UN Human Rights Council

The request for the meeting was made to “address the deteriorating human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially with regard to women and children,” according to the letter signed by the ambassadors of the two countries.

Germany and Iceland today called for a special meeting of the UN Human Rights Council to consider “the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran” in relation to pro-women protests.

The request for the meeting was made to “address the deteriorating human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, especially with regard to women and children,” according to the letter signed by the ambassadors of the two countries.

The request is supported by a total of 44 UN member countries, it is clarified in the joint letter of the permanent representatives of Germany and Iceland to the UN in Geneva. In order to hold a special meeting, the approval of one-third of the existing 47 members of the Council is needed.
