“Despite the fact that her medical treatment was not completed, but with her head held high, my mother Naid Taghavi was forced to return to Evin Prison (yesterday) Sunday November 13th,” Mariam Claren said via Twitter.

The German-Iranian human rights activist Naid Taghavi, who was allowed to leave the Iranian prison where she had been held for almost two years in order to receive medical treatment in July, has been re-imprisoned, her daughter announced on Sunday.

“Despite the fact that her medical treatment was not completed, but with her head held high, my mother Naid Taghavi was forced to return to Evin Prison (yesterday) Sunday November 13th,” Mariam Claren said via Twitter.

Ms Taghavi, 67, who has been a long-time defender of human rights in Iran, especially women’s rights, was arrested in her Tehran apartment on October 16, 2020, according to the Internationale Gesellschaft für Menschenrechte , IGFM).

The architect, who was accused of “endangering the security of the state”, was sentenced in August 2021 to serve 10 years and 8 months in prison, because she also belonged to an “illegal organization” and engaged in “propaganda” against the clerical regime.

According to her daughter, the activist has multiple disc disease in her neck and back and carpal tunnel syndrome in her left hand.

Ms. Taghavi also suffers from type 2 diabetes and her health condition deteriorated significantly after contracting the novel coronavirus in July 2021.

Iran has been experiencing a wave of protests and their bloody crackdown since the death on September 16 of Mahsha Amini, 22, of Iranian Kurdish origin, who was arrested three days earlier by the morality police for not wearing her headscarf “properly”, violating the extremely strict dress code for women in the Islamic Republic.

“After (the young woman’s) death at the hands of the police and with the revolutionary movement going on in Iran, the whole world is witnessing the reprisals of this inhumane regime,” Mariam Claren said.
