Ukrainian authorities have announced that they have discovered several torture chambers in areas of the Kherson region after they were recaptured by Ukrainian forces after months of occupation.
The scale of torture cases in Kherson during the Russian occupation is “terrible”, a senior Ukrainian human rights official said today.
“I have never seen ‘torture’ on such a scale,” “after visiting all the torture chambers in different regions of Ukraine,” said Dmytro Lubinets, the parliament’s human rights official, speaking on national television. “The scope of the phenomenon is tremendous.”
“Dozens of people” were tortured with “electric shocks, they were hit with metal pipes. Their bones were broken” and “the Russians were filming all of this,” he said. “I am sure that in every large area we will discover a torture chamber. As this is a system that Russia has established.”
