Twelve dead in a bus accident in Egypt

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, where roads are often poorly maintained and traffic laws are rarely enforced.

Twelve people were killed today when a bus they were traveling in collided with a truck near the seaside resort of Hurghada in the eastern part of Egypt, the health ministry said.

This is the second fatal accident in less than ten days in Egypt.

On November 12, 20 people were killed when the minibus they were traveling in overturned in a Nile Delta canal in the north.

Today, twelve people were killed and thirty others were injured and taken to nearby hospitals, the Ministry of Health said in its statement.

The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident on the road connecting the Red Sea cities of Ras Gharib and Hurghada, a judicial source said.

Officially, 7,000 people were killed in traffic accidents in 2021 in the Arab world’s most populous country, with a population of 104 million.
