His commitment to Brexit reaffirmed the Rishi Sunak amid reports of his government’s shift towards a barrier-free trade relationship with the EU, along the lines of the so-called “Swiss model”.
From the floor of the conference of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the body that represents British employers, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom said that he was “decisive” that there would be no alignment with Community law.
“I voted for Brexit, I believe in Brexit and I know that Brexit can deliver results and has already provided huge benefits and opportunities for the country,” he added.
Indirectly responding to the Sunday Times report which spoke of the government’s move to pursue completely seamless trade with the EU, but without the freedom of movement of citizens, Mr Sunak added that one of the benefits of Brexit is “proper border control us”.
Earlier, however, CBI chief Tony Danker had told delegates that the gaps in the country’s labor market were “vast”, calling on the government to adopt “practical” methods and allow more migrants into the workforce.
