Ukraine’s electricity grid has been destroyed on a “colossal” scale following Russian strikes, the head of Ukraine’s national electricity grid operator Ukrenergo said, citing extensive damage to Ukrainian power plants.

Volodymyr Kudritsky, CEO of Ukrenergo, said during a briefing that practically no thermal or hydroelectric power station has been left unscathed by the Russian attacks,

“The scale of the destruction is colossal. In Ukraine there is a deficit of electricity production. We cannot produce as much energy as consumers can use,” he said. He also warned that Ukrainians could face major power outages, but that his company would help keep citizens in Ukraine and not leave the country.

It is recalled that the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Irina Vereshchuk, said yesterday Monday that in the coming days the government will start helping those people who wish to leave the country. He emphasized, however, that the residents will decide for themselves what they want to do.

At the same time, the managing director of Ukrenergo said that Ukraine had enough fuel reserves and is working hard to repair the damaged infrastructure. However, he is against the voluntary evacuation of civilians in Kherson and Mykolaiv.

“Such calls are inappropriate,” he said.
