According to the National Health Commission (the Chinese Ministry of Health), in the previous 24 hours, 31,454 cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed, of which 27,517 were asymptomatic.

The number of confirmed SARS-CoV-2 cases in 24 hours broke a record in China today, according to figures released by the authorities, who are struggling to contain its spread by imposing extremely strict containment measures, mass testing and banning the movements.

According to the national health commission (the Chinese Ministry of Health), in the previous 24 hours, 31,454 cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed, of which 27,517 were asymptomatic.

That’s up from 29,390 infections in mid-April, when Shanghai, the world’s third-most populous city, was under lockdown and residents struggled to buy food or see a doctor.

China, the Asian giant of 1.2 billion people, is the only major economy in the world that continues to try to eradicate the new coronavirus cases in the country by imposing a blockade on cities and placing contacts of infected people in strict quarantine.

In recent days, the Chinese capital has experienced an outbreak of the epidemic that it had never seen since the outbreak of the pandemic. Dozens of apartment buildings are in foreclosure and companies generally prefer telecommuting.

The city of Beijing (population 22 million) on Wednesday recorded almost 1,500 cases of SARS-CoV-2 (the vast majority of them asymptomatic), a level never seen since the outbreak of the health crisis, although it remains comparatively very low based on the international criteria.

Schools, restaurants and shops were closed due to fear of being quarantined. Many Beijingers say they are now fed up with the restrictions, which are often vague and changing and their duration is never announced in advance.

In the previous 24 hours, one more patient died due to complications of COVID-19. It is the fourth day in November that deaths due to the disease have been announced. The previous death due to COVID-19 in China dates back to May.

Officially, the death toll of the pandemic in the giant country of Asia has reached 5,232 dead out of a total of 297,516 infections with symptoms.
