The bombing continues even after the withdrawal of the Russian forces from the area
At least 32 people in the southern Ukrainian province of Kherson they have be killed from Russian shelling after the withdrawal of Russian and pro-Russian forces two weeks ago, Ukraine’s national police chief said today.
Russian forces completed the withdrawal them from the city of Kherson on November 11 after almost nine months of occupation. They are now stationed on the east bank of the Dnieper, from where they regularly shell the city.
“Daily Russian shelling is destroying the city and killing peaceful local residents. In total, Russia has killed 32 civilians in the Kherson region since the recapture,” national police chief Ihor Klimenko said in a Facebook post.
“Many people are evacuating to seek refuge in calmer parts of the country. But many residents remain in their homes and we have to provide them with the maximum possible security,” he continued, saying police were operating in the area again.
Electricity in the city has been restored, a senior aide to the Ukrainian president said earlier today.
Last week, a senior official said that Ukraine will soon start removing people who want to leave the region.
Klimenko also said investigators documented a total of 578 of what he described as war crimes committed by Russian troops and their accomplices in the region. Moscow regularly rejects allegations that its forces have abused civilians.
