A 12m tall artificial tree will be erected in Sophia Square as a ‘symbolic Christmas tree of the insubordinate’
As Christmas approaches, one by one the countries put on their holiday clothes by setting up trees in their central squares.
Despite the fact that the war in Ukraine is raging, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko announced that the Ukrainian capital will also get a Christmas tree despite the war situation and the energy crisis.
In particular, an artificial tree 12 meters long will be set up in Sofia Square as a “symbolic Christmas tree of the insubordinate”.
The tree will be decorated with garlands and to “save energy” it will be lit by receiving power from a generator, the mayor said in a post on Telegram. After Christmas the generator will be given to the military.
There will also be phone charging points nearby.
At the top will be the coat of arms of Ukraine and around the base of the tree will be flags of the countries that have helped Ukraine.
