Lavrov accused the West of pushing Ukraine to continue its war against Russia
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that it is vital to avoid any kind of military confrontation between nuclear powers, even if that includes the use of “only” conventional weapons, as reported by TASS news agency.
Lavrov also said the West was pushing Ukraine to continue the war against Russia.
“We must avoid any military conflict between nuclear powers, even with the use of conventional weapons. Escalation can become uncontrollable,” he said, according to TASS.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a series of veiled nuclear threats during the war in Ukraine, but several top officials have repeatedly denied that Moscow plans to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and have accused the West of escalating tensions.
Zelensky: I don’t believe Putin will use nukes
Shortly after the Russian foreign minister’s statements, the Ukrainian president in turn made a comment claiming that he does not believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin will use nuclear weapons.
The Ukrainian president made the comments while speaking at the New York Times’ “DealBook” summit in New York via video.
