Iran: Security forces shoot at protesters’ faces and genitals

by

According to doctors in the country who spoke to the Guardian website, security forces shoot women in different places than men

Iranian security forces are shooting protesters in the head, chest and genitals, who continue to protest against the regime, according to local doctors.

As the Guradian website reports, doctors and nurses – who treated the protesters in secret to avoid arrest – said they first noticed the practice by Iranian security forces, with women often arriving with different injuries than men, the who more often had shotgun pellets in their legs, buttocks and backs.

Photos provided by medics to the Guardian show the wounds the wounded have all over their bodies from being shot by security forces at close range.

The Guardian spoke to 10 medical professionals who warned of the severity of the injuries which could cause permanent damage to hundreds of young Iranians. In fact, shots to the eyes of women, men and children are particularly common, doctors said.

One of the doctors claims that the authorities shoot men and women at different points “because they want to destroy the beauty of these women”.

“I treated a woman in her 20s who was shot in the genitals by two pellets. Ten more pellets were lodged in her inner thigh. Those 10 pellets were easily removed, but these two pellets were a challenge because they were wedged between the urethra and the vaginal opening,” said the doctor. “There was a serious risk of a vaginal infection, so I asked her to see a trusted gynaecologist. She said she was protesting when a group of about 10 security agents surrounded her and shot her in the genitals and thighs.’

Some health professionals accused security forces of ignoring riot control practices, such as shooting in the legs and avoiding shooting at vital organs.

A doctor from Karaj, a town near Tehran, said in turn that security forces “shoot women’s faces and genitals because they have an inferiority complex and want to get rid of their sexual complexes by hurting young women.” .
