President Joe Biden says WNBA star Brittney Griner ‘is in good spirits’

Statements from the White House on the release of Brittney Greiner were made by Joe Biden.

“After months of unjust detention in Russia, in unbearable conditions, Britney will soon be back in the arms of her loved ones, and she should have been there in the first place,” he said.

“This is a day we’ve been working towards for a long time. We never stopped pushing for her release. It took painstaking and intense negotiations,” he added, thanking everyone involved in her release as well as the United Arab Emirates, where the prisoner exchange took place.

President Biden said the WNBA star is “in good spirits” while already on a flight to the US.

“These last few months it was hell for Britney”, he said. “I’m glad to say that Britney is in good spirits. She is relieved to finally be back home, but the fact remains that she lost months of her life, experienced an unnecessary trauma. She deserves space, privacy and time with her loved ones to recover and recover from her illegal detention,” the US president noted.

Biden said Greiner spent her trial in Russia and her time in custody with “courage and incredible integrity.”

“He wrote to me in July. She didn’t ask for special treatment even though we were working on her release from day one. He simply asked, “Please don’t forget me and the other American prisoners,” he added.
