Ukraine has accused Russia of arresting two workers at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, which Moscow seized shortly after the war began, after “severely beating” them.

Yesterday, Thursday, “the Russian army broke into the site where the social programs department of the nuclear power plant is located and, in the presence of other workers, violently beat the head of the department Oleksii Trubenkov and his deputy Yuriy Androsov,” reported Energoatom, the manager of the nuclear station.

“After this violent beating,” the Russians “removed them and took them to an unknown location,” Energoatom alleged.

Nuclear plant security official Konstantin Beiner was also “thrown to the ground,” according to the same source, but was not captured by Russian forces.

Energoatom accused the Russian soldiers in control of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant of “being dragged out and turned into real policemen and prison guards”, “intensifying the repression” of the workers.

This is not the first time that Kyiv has accused Moscow of mistreating Ukrainian staff at the Zaporizhia station. At the end of September its general manager was arrested by Russian forces and released a few days later.

For months, Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of bombing the area around the nuclear plant, which is close to the front line, raising the risk of a nuclear accident.
