According to the La Stampa newspaper, Pantzeri’s family allegedly spent 100,000 euros on a summer vacation, while his wife and daughter allegedly knew about his dealings.

Italian media reports today that the former MEP Antonio Panzeri reportedly was the main reference point of the corruption system revealed by an investigation by the Brussels prosecutor’s office.

According to La Stampa newspaper, Pantzeri’s family reportedly spent 100,000 euros on a summer holiday, while his wife and daughter, who were placed under house arrest in Italy, allegedly knew about his dealings. So much so that his wife, according to the newspaper, has made reference to “combines” of the former MEP in telephone monitoring. For now, their defense lawyer has announced that they will only respond to the charges when the Belgian authorities send the Italian magistrates the full case file concerning them.

The newspaper La Repubblica claims that Panzeri and Francesco Giorgi – his former assistant and Eva Kaili’s partner – “allegedly had the first contacts with Qataris, during the period 2016-2018”. As far as Panzeri’s family is concerned, the Italian media also refer to “comfortable use of a credit card which was not their property” and gifts that also allegedly came from a Moroccan ambassador.

And the Italian news agency Ansa, finally, writes that, based on the documents of the investigation, “Pantseri is charged with suspicions concerning political interference with members working in the European Parliament, in favor of Qatar and Morocco, with a monetary consideration.”
