“We argue that the parties should make efforts of a peaceful nature to resolve this situation through diplomatic means,” said Dmitry Peskov
The Kremlin appealed today to settle the tensions between Serbia and Kosovo with “diplomatic means”, after the attacks aimed at the police, while at the same time demanding to “guarantee” the rights of the Serbs.
“We argue that the parties should make efforts of a peaceful nature to resolve this situation through diplomatic means,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
“We argue that all the rights of Serbs must be guaranteed,” he added, however.
Tensions rose this weekend in northern Kosovo after unknown assailants exchanged fire with police and fired a flash bomb at the European Union order forces deployed in the area as part of the Eulex mission.
Serbian protesters also erected barricades paralyzing traffic at two border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia to protest the arrest of a former police officer.
Pristina and Belgrade traded accusations after this latest series of incidents, which prompted Kosovo to postpone to April 23 local elections in Serb-majority communities, which were due to be held on December 18.
