THE Elon Musk on Monday abruptly disbanded the platform’s Trust and Safety Council, a group of volunteer experts who offered the company online safety advice. “As Twitter moves into a new phase, we’re rethinking how best to offer outside advice to our product and policy development”the company said in the email. “As part of this process, we have decided that the Trust and Security Council is not the best structure to do this” is added.
Alex Holmes, who was a member of the council, tweeted the email preceded the cancellation of a meeting with the council.
“The way this has developed and the way members have been treated is unfortunate and unacceptable”said Holmes, who is also a board member of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and deputy chief executive of the nonprofit group The Diana Award.
Holmes even complained that “this past week the safety and well-being of many council members was affected by the actions of Twitter staff.”
