France: Eight accused in 2016 Nice terror attack sentenced to 2-18 years in prison

A Special Criminal Court in Paris today imposed prison terms of 2 to 18 years on eight defendants over the 2016 terrorist attack in Nice, France.

It was July 14 when Tunisian-born Mohamed Boullel drove the truck he was driving into the crowd that had gathered along the boulevard to admire the Bastille Day fireworks show. He scattered death over a distance of nearly two kilometers before falling dead from police fire. 86 people were killed and more than 200 were injured, according to the authorities’ tally.

Boullel’s main defendant and friend, Mohamed Ghraib, was found guilty of participating in a terrorist organization and sentenced to 18 years in prison. Two other defendants were found guilty of helping Buell obtain weapons as well as the truck he used in the terror attack.
