The case is not related to the Qatar scandal

In shelter the Belgian justice minister is under threat to his life Vincent Van Quickenborne according to Belgian reports.

Belgian media reported that the home of federal Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne in the west Flemish city of Kortrijk is again under increased surveillance by local and federal police agencies.

This also happened at the end of September, when the police were informed about plans to kidnap the Minister of Justice. Four suspects are currently in custody awaiting trial in connection with the alleged kidnapping plot.

However, a source in the Belgian Ministry of Justice told the EURACTIV that due to the situation the minister has been moved to a safe “shelter”.

Asked if he was related to the Qatar scandal, which has shocked public opinion in Belgium, he replied in the negative.

It is rumored that a threat level 4 (risk of serious and imminent attack) may be declared, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office will not confirm or deny this.

The security services discussed the matter on Wednesday evening at the Crisis Center of the Ministry of the Interior in Brussels.

Federal Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Eric Van der Sypt told reporters that “this evening we received new information about the possible threat to the person of Minister Van Quickenborne. We are evaluating this information and will investigate it thoroughly.”

“Of course we are not taking any risks, neither with the minister nor with his family. Additional security measures were agreed upon. I think it’s obvious that we can’t say to give details. I can only confirm that there are increased security measures,” Van der Sypt said.
