Today’s Russian missile attacks caused “colossal” damage to Kharkiv’s infrastructure and mainly affected the energy system, the city’s mayor Ihor Terekhov said today.
“Colossal damage to infrastructure, especially the power system,” he wrote in a Telegram post. “I ask you to be patient with what is happening now. I know that in your homes you do not have lights, heating, water,” he added.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Kiev military command, Mykhailo Shamanov, said that Ukrainian air defenses shot down 37 of the 40 Russian missiles fired at the region of the Ukrainian capital today.
“About 40 missiles were detected in the capital’s airspace. Thirty-seven of them were destroyed by air defense,” Shamanov noted on Telegram.
The missile attack was “one of the most severe” launched by Russia since the beginning of the war, Shamanov said on television.
Due to the Russian strikes in Kyiv, there has been an interruption in the water supply.
In a separate announcement on Telegram, the governor of Dnipropetrovsk province, Valentin Reznichenko, said that air defenses shot down 10 missiles over the province.
At least two dead
At least two people were killed and five wounded in a Russian missile attack on a residential building in Kryvyi Rih in southern Ukraine, local governor Valentin Reznichenko said.
“Russian missile hit a residential building. Two people were killed,” the governor announced via Telegram.
“At least five people were injured, including two children. Everyone is in the hospital,” he added.
Sirens sounded early on
Russia launched fresh missile attacks against Ukraine today, with air defense sirens sounding across the country, including Kiev, Ukrainian officials said.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital.
In Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine, the local governor noted that critical infrastructure was damaged by the shelling. For its part, the energy supply company Oblenegro pointed out that electricity has been completely cut off in Kharkiv.
In Odessa, on the Black Sea, the Russian missile attack damaged important infrastructure, according to the local governor.
The regional governor of Sumy province, Dmytro Zhivitskyi, spoke of temporary power outages in the region, while his counterpart in Kriviy Rih, Oleksandr Vilkul, said the province had been targeted by shelling.
