There were no deaths or injuries – Recovery operations are ongoing

Russia’s raids today hit “critical infrastructure” in the Ukrainian capital and its environs, Ukrainian authorities said, adding that air defense systems destroyed about fifteen of twenty UAVs headed for Kyiv.

The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, said that according to the first reports, there were no deaths or injuries in the strikes, clarifying that public service officials are working in various locations in the Solomianski and Shevchenkivski districts.

“Critical infrastructure has been damaged,” Klitschko said via Telegram. “Engineers from the electricity and heating companies are working to stabilize the supply situation,” he added.

A Reuters reporter on the ground reported that a fire had broken out in the central Shevchenkivskiy district, which is often the target of airstrikes.

The Solomyansky District, in the western part of Kyiv, is a busy transport hub, home to a railway station and one of the city’s two civil airports.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, about 35 Iranian-made Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles were used by the Russian armed forces today, of which 30 were shot down.

Oleksii Kuleba, the head of local government in the Kyiv region — which covers suburbs, not the capital itself — said infrastructure and homes were affected. According to his information, two people were injured.

The Ukrainian armed forces reported that the UAVs took off from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov.

The Sea of Azov, in southern Ukraine, is now labeled a “Russian lake”.

Air defense sirens could be heard throughout most of the night in Kyiv and its suburbs. The airwaves of Kyiv were judged to be clear at 05:50 (local and Greek time).
