According to a poll by the American institute IRI (International Republican Institute), the opposition VMRO-DPMNE is firmly ahead of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDSM).
More specifically, in terms of voting intention, VMRO-DPMNE, led by Christian Mickoski, gathers 19%, while SDSM, led by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, gathers 11%.
The co-ruling Albanian party DUI, led by Ali Ahmeti, has 7%, while the ultra-nationalist Slavic party “Left” (Levica) has 6%.
The percentage of undecided votes is high, reaching 35%.
According to the poll, the most popular politician in North Macedonia is Hungarian fugitive former prime minister Nikola Gruevski with 7%, followed by Christian Mickoski and Ali Ahmeti with 6% each, Dimitar Kovacevski with 5% and former Prime Minister Zoran Zaev with 2%. “None” answered 38% of the poll respondents.
To the question “if the country is moving in a positive or negative direction”, almost 58% of respondents answered negatively and 13% answered positively.
The poll was conducted between September 23 and October 13, 2002 (released today) on a representative sample of 1,207 respondents from across the state.
