Regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said 80% of the region was without electricity for a second day after Russian drones hit energy infrastructure yesterday

The electricity supply in the Kyiv area is at a “critical” level todaywith the supply to is below 50% of the capital’s needs into action after Russian missile and drone attacks, regional officials said.

The regional governor Oleksii Kuleba stated that 80% of the area is without electricity for a second day after Russian drone strikes on energy infrastructure yesterday, Monday, in the latest in a series of attacks on energy facilities since October.

“The situation with electricity supply remains critical,” Kouleba said on the Telegram messaging platform. “I want to emphasize that with each bombardment by the enemy, the complexity and duration of repairs increases.”

Ukrenergo, the national operator of the electricity grid, said it could supply less than half of the required consumption in the capital Kyiv. The capital’s subway service was briefly halted during the morning rush hour because the power supply was erratic.

“Supplying critical infrastructure is a priority. We expect that today we will be able to activate equipment to make it possible to increase the security of supply, reduce the power deficit and connect more consumers,” Ukrenergo said.

Without electricity, water supply, heating and mobile phone networks are usually affected. The mayor of Kiev Vitali Klitschko stated that the city was able to restore water supply to some customers.

The United Nations estimates that about 50 percent of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure has been destroyed since Russia stepped up its attacks on energy facilities in October. The daytime temperature in Kyiv and the region at this time of year is below zero.
