“Seven leaders of recent UK-related protests have been arrested by Revolutionary Guards intelligence services,” the statement said. Among them were persons “with dual citizenship who were trying to leave the country”.

The unrest in Iran was sparked by the death on September 16 of 22-year-old Mahsha Amini, who was arrested for not wearing her headscarf properly. The government blames the unrest on protesters who “destroy public property” and says they were trained and armed by Tehran’s enemies, including the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia.
