“The hypocrites, the monarchists, the common counter-revolutionaries and all those who were destroyed by the revolution took part in the demonstrations,” Raisi said.
The Iranian president Ibrahim Raisi promised today that there will be “no mercy” for those who express their hostility towards the Islamic Republic in the protests that broke out after the death of Mahsha Amini.
The protests, generally described as “riots” by authorities, began with the death on September 16 of a 22-year-old Iranian of Kurdish origin after she was arrested in Tehran on charges of violating the country’s strict dress code for women.
“The hypocrites, the monarchists, the common counter-revolutionaries and all those who were destroyed by the revolution took part in the demonstrations,” Raishi told a crowd gathered in front of Tehran University to pay tribute to the remains of 200 soldiers killed in the Iran war. -Iraq (1980-1988).
“The arms of the nation are open to all those who have been seduced. The youth are our children,” he said, but “we will have no mercy on hostile elements.”
Iranian officials have accused the Islamic Republic’s “enemies,” such as the United States and other Western countries, of inciting the protests.
“If you think you’re going to achieve your goals by spreading rumors and dividing society, you’re wrong,” Raisi said. “You want to deceive, but we know you and we also know our nation.”
Iranian officials say hundreds of people have been killed, including dozens of security personnel, and thousands arrested in the protests, which have been dominated by women and youth.
Human rights activists outside Iran estimate that at least 450 protesters have been killed.
The judiciary has so far announced that it has sentenced 11 people to death for their role in the protests: two have already been executed and two will be retried.
Activists say so another twelve are at risk of the death penalty.
