Israel: Netanyahu rejects UN resolution on settlements as ‘despicable’

by

The General Assembly resolution asks the ICC to rule on “the legal implications of Israel’s continued violation of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people” through “occupation, settlements and annexations

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as “despicable” the decision adopted yesterday by the UN General Assembly requesting the International Criminal Court to give an opinion on the legal implications of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

“The Jewish people are not conquerors in their land nor in our eternal capital Jerusalem and no resolution of UN cannot distort this historical truth,” the Israeli prime minister said in a video message.

The General Assembly resolution asks the ICC to give an opinion on “the legal implications of Israel’s continued violation of the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people” through “occupation, settlements and annexations (…) including measures that have aimed at altering the demographic composition, character and status of the holy city of Jerusalem”.
