UK Treasury Secretary Richie Sunak has announced that catering and entertainment businesses will receive an additional 1 1bn in financial support for the disruption that has begun to affect the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
Each company will be able to apply for a one-time grant of 000 6,000.
30 30m is also being added to the pandemic support package for museums and theaters, and a measure is being reintroduced that allows small and medium-sized enterprises to receive state compensation for the cost of staff’s absence due to coronavirus disease.
Although the government has not announced any measures to affect the catering, many businesses are already suffering from a wave of Christmas booking cancellations, reduced customer service and mass staff absences due to illness.
Meanwhile, Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sterzion has announced restrictions on mass rallies with effect from 26 December.
Gatherings of up to 200 people will be allowed indoors and up to 500 people outdoors, with distances.
This means, as Ms. Sterzion clarified, the cancellation of Hogmanay’s traditional festivities, but also the holding of football matches and other sporting events in essence behind closed doors.
The Prime Minister said that the amateur sports games should be postponed until the end of the first weekend of January.
