The EU-Ukraine Summit in Kyiv

The summit, planned for Friday 3 February, will not be attended by the 27 heads of state and government, but only by Mrs von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel

Contrary to what was initially announced, the EU-Ukraine summit announced by European officials will not take place in Brussels, but in Kyiv, according to a press release released by the services of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky last Monday night.

The change of location is announced after a telephone conversation between Mr. Zelenskiy and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The meeting, which is planned to be held on Friday, February 3, will not be attended by the heads of state and government of the 27, but only Mrs von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel, according to the same source.

This was already announced by a representative of Mr. Michel in December.

As the summit will take place in Kyiv, the scenario for Mr. Zelensky’s possible new trip abroad, after his visit to Washington last month, ends.

Always in line with the Ukrainian presidency, Mr Zelensky and Mrs von der Leyen discussed in their first dialogue in 2023 the situation on the war fronts, the progress of the Ukrainian government in the country’s EU accession process and the European economic support in Kyiv, after the adoption of the 18 billion euro package by the European Parliament in December. The Ukrainian president asked for the first part of the aid to be delivered within the month.
