London pharmacists who spoke to confirmed that there have been shortages on their shelves of popular everyday medicines for a few months now.
London, Thanasis Gavos
A growing number of pharmacists in Britain are reporting difficulties in supplying common fever and cold medicines, with wholesale warehouses now often saying they are unable to meet routine orders.
London pharmacists who spoke to SKAI confirmed that for a few months there have been shortages on their shelves of daily medicines in great demand, such as mainly children’s medicines Calpol and Nurofen or Day & Night Nurse for the relief of cold symptoms. As they noted, they try to convince their customers to trust similar drugs.
The main shortages reported at national level are throat lozenges, cough preparations and pain relievers, especially effervescents. They concern both original and generic drugs.
Drug and cosmetics chain Superdrug said it was seeing huge demand for cough and cold medicines
The head of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies, Leila Hanbeck, said that concerns about the adequacy of medicines continue, and that at the same time the demand is increased due to the many cases of flu and colds.
On behalf of the Royal College of Pharmacy, Thorun Govind said “there is concern about shortages of cough and cold medicines and yes there is an issue in the supply chain that the government needs to look at seriously”.
