The co-chairman of Germany’s ruling Social Democratic Party (SPD) Lars Klingbeil said on Saturday that he was skeptical of Ukraine’s calls to send German Leopard tanks without a NATO decision.
“No country is delivering armored tanks like the Leopard 1 or 2,” Klingbeil said in an interview with the RTL and NTV networks.
After denouncing Russian atrocities in Ukraine and pointing out that the Kremlin strongman has criticized the West for military aid to Kyiv, he stressed that “it is important that the Americans, the French, but also us as the federal government of Germany, weigh again and again our involvement in this war.”
For the German government, he said, it has always been important not to act alone when it comes to military aid to Ukraine.

“The delivery of armored personnel carriers is a signal that the Western alliance is acting in close coordination and continues to support Ukraine,” Klingbeil said in an interview with the RND network.
