The explosion caused damage without causing casualties, Lithuania’s natural gas transmission company said.
“We are investigating the cause of the explosion,” said an Amber Grid spokesperson.
The company announced that according to the initial estimates, it does not see malicious causes for the explosion, but the investigations will cover all possible scenarios.
The fire will soon be extinguished as the gas supply has been shut off, Amber Grid said.
Povilas Balciunas, head of public administration in the nearby town of Paslavis, told Reuters the fire was still raging at 19:50 Greek time.
Police were preparing to evacuate a village near the scene, Baltic news agency BNS reported.
No injuries or deaths have been reported, BNS added.
