Russia and Ukraine have exchanged hundreds of prisoners — most recently on January 8 — during the armed conflict, which is now in its eleventh month.
Russia canceled “at the last minute” a planned exchange of prisoners of war, an official Ukrainian institution announced.
“Another round of prisoner exchange with the Russian side was planned,” the coordination headquarters for the treatment of prisoners of war said on the Telegram platform. “However, it was canceled at the last minute on the initiative of the Russian side.”
The office of Russian human rights commissioner Tatiana Maskalkova did not respond when Reuters sought comment.

Earlier on Saturday, Ms. Maskalkova reported via Telegram that Russian soldiers have reported being blackmailed while they were Ukrainian prisoners of war.
So far, there has been no reaction from the Ukrainian authorities to this accusation. Reuters notes that it is unable to independently verify what Ms. Maskalkova reported.
