The politician and her bodyguard were murdered, while her brother was injured in the attack

Mursal Nabizada, a former member of Afghanistan’s lower house, was killed by unknown assailants at her home in Kabul, Taliban police said.

The politician and her bodyguard were murdered, while her brother was injured in the attack, which was committed yesterday Sunday, according to the same source.

“In-depth investigation into the case is underway to identify the criminals” responsible, police added.

Mursal Nabizanda was a member of the Afghan lower house until the Western-backed state apparatus collapsed as the Taliban retook power in August 2021 amid the withdrawal of US and other troops after twenty years of war.

The recapture of power by the Taliban forced several politicians to flee the country.

The murdered woman was elected a member of the lower house in 2018 and represented the capital Kabul, according to the Afghan television network Tolo.

The Taliban assure that they have restored security in the country and urge the Afghans who have left it and wish to return home. But in recent months there has been a spate of attacks, including last week’s attack on the Foreign Ministry, which was claimed by Islamic State jihadists.

In December, one person was killed in a suicide attack near the Kabul offices of the Hezb-i-Islami party, as its leader, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Afghanistan’s prime minister in the 1990s, was there.
