The UK’s best-selling non-fiction book in its first week has become Prince Harry’s autobiography.
According to official figures from the Nielsen company, based on sales data from British bookstores, the book titled “Spare” sold 467,184 copies in the seven days since last Tuesday’s release.
The measurement does not include sales of the electronic or audio format of the book. Including these alternative sales formats, ‘Spare’ has been bought around 750,000 times in the UK.
The only best-selling titles in the same period, since comparative figures are kept, are four books in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series and Dan Brown’s Lost Symbol, which are works of fiction.
On the first day of release alone, the Duke of Sussex is believed to have seen 1.4 million copies of his book sold worldwide. As certified by the Guinness Book of World Records, it thus became the best-selling non-fiction book in history on its day of release.
