The Villa Medici, the Renaissance palace of the 16th century, has been her home since 1803 Académie de France in Rome.

In the last 20 years there have been no major changes in its six salons. Now, the Academy has collaborated with Fendi to establish a better relationship between centuries-old rooms and contemporary design.

The Italian house and Mobilier National, France’s national agency for furniture, were consulted for the project. The French architect Pierre-Antoine Gatier was called in to restore decorative elements in the Grand Salon. The conservation experts from Bobin Tradition proceeded to preserve the tapestries.

Kim Jones, creative director of fashion and womenswear at Fendi, collaborated with Silvia Venturini Fendi, creative director of accessories and menswear at the house as well as Mobilier National, to curate a selection of contemporary French and Italian furniture for the living rooms. Many were drawn from Casa Fendi, the Italian house’s homewares collection, and chosen for their ability to coexist with antiques and classic works of art.

In several salons, Fendi and Mobilier National introduced tapestries by famous artists, among them creations by Louise Bourgeois, Sheila Hicks and Sonia Delaunay.
