The president of France Emmanuel Macron announced today that €400 billion will go towards the 2024-2030 defense budget of France, which will be increased by a third compared to defense spending in the period 2019-2025.

Emmanuel Macron also promised a 60% increase in military Intelligence spending for the period 2024-2030, revealing the main axes of the next Military Planning Law.

The 2019-2025 defense budget aimed to rebuild France’s defense and put an end to decades of underfunding, Emmanuel Macron said.

Regarding the new 2024-2030 defense budget, the French president referred to a “transformation” program to adapt the capabilities of the armed forces to high-intensity conflicts, a transformation that became more urgent after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The Military Planning Law reflects the country’s efforts for its armed forces and these efforts will be proportionate to the risks, that is, significant,” the French president said at the Mont-de-Marssan air base in southwestern France as he delivered the message to the French forces for the New Year.

“France has and will have armed forces suitable for the challenges of the century,” said the French president

France must prepare for a new era, an era of accumulating risks. Some are old wars, others are unprecedented, “between cutting edge technology and barbaric simplicity.”
