USA: 55 cases of coronavirus on a cruise ship that sailed from Florida

by

Fifty-five people have been diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 on a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship that sailed from Florida on Saturday, the company said.

People infected with the virus include both passengers and crew, although 95% of those on board have been vaccinated against COVID-19, the shipping company said.

The vessel was not allowed to land on the islands of Curacao and Aruba in the Caribbean Sea, in theory the last of its eight-day voyage. He will therefore remain at sea until his return to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on December 26th.

The Odyssey of the Seas has 3,587 passengers and 1,599 crew members, according to USA Today.

According to the shipping company, the 55 people confirmed to be infected are all vaccinated against COVID-19 and are either asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

This is the second outbreak of the virus on a Royal Caribbean ship in less than a week.

On Saturday, the Symphony of the Seas returned to the port of Miami with 48 people affected by SARS-CoV-2.

The new coronavirus pandemic had caused the suspension of leisure travel of this kind for more than a year.

They resumed in June after a series of measures were announced to prevent outbreaks, such as mandatory vaccinations for workers and passengers over the age of 12 boarding Royal Caribbean ships, for example.

But the Omicron variant, highly contagious, is a new challenge for the industry.
