Opponents of Abortion Rights March on Washington – Demand Tighter Restrictions

by

“We will continue marching until abortion is unthinkable,” the president of the movement told the crowd, which was smaller than last year.

Thousands of opponents of women’s abortion rights marched in Washington on Friday as part of the 50th March for Life, marking a new chapter in the movement that has for years aimed to overturn the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision. USA, under which it was protected at the federal level abortion.

With the cancellation of this decision in June, the leaders and members of the “March for Life” movement celebrated their victory yesterday. But they are still pushing for tighter restrictions on abortion at the state and federal level, while praying to change the “hearts and minds” of Americans who support abortion.

“We’re not done yet,” March for Life president Jeanne Mancini told the crowd, which appeared to be smaller than last year. “We will continue marching until abortion is unthinkable,” he added.

After Roe v. Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022, 12 states have outlawed abortion entirely, with very limited exceptions, and abortion services are unavailable in two more, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

The marchers said they want abortion to be banned in all states, at every stage of pregnancy. Some held signs that read: “I demand protection from conception” and “abortion is genocide.”

“I think just like we wouldn’t want to murder someone here, we wouldn’t want to see any of these lives hurt or lost,” said Rob McNutt, a pastor.

“Life begins at conception,” said Kathleen Stahl, a 60-year-old nurse who works in women’s and children’s clinics.

Stahl and others, in addition to banning abortion, would like to see bills passed that would offer resources and protections to women facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Next steps

Speakers at the rally included Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch, who won a case against a clinic in Jackson that prompted the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

In the future, the March for Life organization plans to hold marches in various states with the goal of pushing for more restrictive measures against abortion at the state level, Mancini explained.

In 2023, he plans to hold 10 marches in states including Arizona, Virginia, California and Connecticut. Mancini also explained that she would like the movement to expand to states where pro-abortionists have recently won, such as Michigan.

Because everyone knows that the battle of public opinion has not yet been won. In all referendums held since June on the issue of abortion, supporters of the right have won, even in conservative states like Kansas and Kentucky.

“The Democrats have reduced it to a political issue, they have invested a lot of money in campaigns, they have talked about the dangers that exist when women do not have the right to abortion (…), but they have not told the truth,” complained 74-year-old Catholic George Means.

Tomorrow, Sunday, on the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, abortion rights advocates will take to the streets in rallies expected to take place in several US cities.
