Three people died instantly and an injured person ended up in hospital this morning.
Four people were killed and six others injured when a crane toppled over and crushed worshipers outside a temple in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening outside a temple located 85 kilometers west of Chennai (Madras), the capital of this federal state.

At least eight people had climbed onto the crane to hang garlands of flowers offered by pilgrims.
A video-documentary broadcast by the Indian media shows the moment the crane overturned and the scenes of panic that followed.

The crane operator was arrested and is being questioned. A police spokesman attributed the tragedy to human error, pointing out that the operator did not pay attention to the terrain, causing the vehicle to tilt and eventually overturn.
