He is asking the West to give Ukraine every weapon it needs to defeat Putin’s forces with an article in the Daily Mail, Boris Johnson.
A few days after his new visit to Kyiv and the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom writes that with the right equipment, Ukraine can win the war within the year.
Referring to the misgivings of countries such as Germany, Mr Johnson wonders “what the hell are we waiting for exactly?”
He warns that the delay in deciding on arms aid to Ukraine in the form of tanks is costing lives and causing economic pain everywhere.
Despite Britain becoming the first country to decide to send tanks to Ukraine, the current West London MP appears to be calling for more tanks to be sent to sit idle on British soil.
“Why don’t we give the Ukrainians all the help they need, when they need it? The sooner we can help the Ukrainians to their inevitable victory, the sooner the entire world can begin to recover from Putin’s debacle. This requires the West to double and triple support,” Mr Johnson writes.
He rejects the possibility of nuclear escalation by Putin, as he would “lose” all his direct or indirect supporters, especially China.
At noon, a Downing Street representative commented, however, that the United Kingdom “will not dictate changes without exactly what assistance they should or should not provide” to Ukraine.
