US and allies will continue to do what they can to support Ukraine, says US president
US President Joe Biden announced today that the US is sending 31 advanced M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, saying the mission is part of a broader effort by allies to show they remain united in the face of Russian aggression.
The US and its allies will continue to do everything they can to support Ukraine, the US president said.
At the same time, he stressed that the Abrams that the US is sending to Ukraine will help Kyiv liberate territories occupied by Russian forces, but they should not be considered by Moscow as an “aggressive threat”.
“This is what it’s all about: helping Ukraine defend and protect Ukrainian land. It’s not an aggressive threat to Russia, there is no aggressive threat to Russia,” Biden told reporters.
Biden admitted that moving US tanks to Ukraine could be a long process.
“Delivering these tanks to the field will take time. Time that we will see and use to make sure that the Ukrainians are fully prepared,” he said.
