France – coronavirus: For the first time over 100,000 cases in one day

by

For the first time today, on Christmas day, France exceeded the “psychological” limit of 100,000 daily cases of Covid-19, a number that has never been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

According to the official data of the Public Health Service, 104,611 new cases were recorded within 24 hours.

On December 4, the limit of 50,000 cases was exceeded, which means that the cases doubled within three weeks, as the Omicron variant is spreading rapidly in the country.

The number of patients admitted to intensive care units also increased by 28, reaching 3,282. 122,546 people have died since the beginning of the pandemic, 84 of them in the last 24 hours.

On Monday, the government will review the situation and the measures taken so far.

It is unclear at this time whether the government will impose new measures before the New Year or whether it will continue with what is being implemented today. At the local level, some stricter measures have been taken, such as in Savoy, which has made it mandatory for all people over the age of 11 to wear a mask, even outdoors where more than 10 people gather, such as in markets, theaters and elsewhere.

The use of a mask is also mandatory from 9 am until midnight in the communities of Chambery, Aix-les-Bains and Albertville as well as in the ski resorts.

76.5% of the population (51,606,171 people) is fully vaccinated while 21,947,185 people have taken the booster dose.
