India-Covid-19: Vaccination of 15-18 year olds starts in January

by

India will start giving boosters of the Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare and front-line workers as a precautionary measure from January 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday as the Omik variant increased.

In his speech, Monti also said that the vaccination of adolescents aged 15-18 will begin on January 3. Elderly people over the age of 60 who suffer from underlying diseases will be able to take the booster dose on the recommendation of their doctor.

“For precautionary reasons, the government has decided that health workers and front-line workers will start receiving the booster dose,” he added.

So far, 415 Omicron cases have been reported in India.

The government is speeding up the vaccination campaign. So far at least one dose has been given to 88% of the 944 million people eligible for vaccination. 61% have done both installments. Although many millions are still waiting for the second installment, the authorities will start offering a third installment to health workers and front-line workers.

Monti urged citizens to continue wearing protective masks and adhere to other Covid-19 protocols.

The federal government is urging local authorities to impose restrictions to prevent congruence during the festive season until the New Year, and some states have partially banned public celebrations.
