“There is no indication of a terrorist motive,” said Itzehoe prosecutor’s spokesman Peter Miller-Rakov. “The rest of the evidence and facts are being investigated,” he added.

The knife attack launched by a 33-year-old man on a Kiel-Hamburg train, which killed two people and injured many others, had no “terrorist” motive, the prosecutor’s office in charge of the investigation said today.

“There is no indication of a terrorist motive,” said Itzehoe prosecutor’s spokesman Peter Miller-Rakov. “The rest of the evidence and facts are being investigated,” he added.

The alleged attacker, Ibrahim A., 33, is a stateless man of Palestinian origin. He was arrested immediately after the attack and will be brought before a judge later today who will decide whether he will be remanded in custody.

In a press conference held in Kiel, the minister of the interior of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Zabine Zitterlin-Waack, gave some clarifications and “corrections” regarding the victims.

Dead are a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old – and not a 16-year-old, as was announced earlier by the police. The two young men knew each other, Zitterlin said.

The injured are a total of 5 and not 7. The two of them are fighting to stay alive.

The assailant was stopped by eyewitnesses and arrested a few minutes later at Brockstedt train station.

Ibrahim A. arrived in Germany in 2014.

So far, no one is able to say where he was before this date.

Since 2015, he has been found guilty several times of various crimes, including rape. He was released from prison in mid-January after serving a sentence for assault and battery and was homeless.
