St Mark’s Anglican Church in St John’s Wood in north-west London was almost completely destroyed by fire which broke out at 11.20pm local time.
80 firefighters with 12 vehicles tried to reach the scene, and brought the fire under control three hours later, but after it had first completed its destructive work in the two-story building. In fact, the firefighters used a folding ladder that reaches 64 meters and is the highest in Europe.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Because of the heavy smoke, residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed.
St. Mark’s Church was described as an “architectural and historical gem” of the Victorian era. Built in 1847 in the Gothic style, it featured rare mosaics by the Salviati family and an elaborate marble floor.
It was a protected building due to its historical and cultural value.
